Again, I'm using the built-in microphone on the iPad, which is pretty amazing considering I'm testing speech recognition software.

Just to repeat, I did this test with the Bing voice search app. I start with an actress with a french name, and then proceed with some medical terms. Spironolactone, triamterene and amiloride are potassium sparing diurectics. I finished with a latin term "deus ex machina."

Google does better than the previous test of the Bing speech search app.

It was able to interpret my rough pronunciation of the french name and term.

For "triamterene," a K-sparing diuretic, it came up correctly in the search box, but for some reasons didn't show up in the search results. This work when I tried it for the first time, so I consider this a correct result.

I think I'm mispronouncing "amiloride," so I'm disinclined to fault Google for this miss.

Overall, I think these tests prove that using speech search on the iPad is well worth using.

  • wow ... the search is pretty good ... but when they translate voice phone calls they must use a different engine because they are terrible .... that is I thought you were talking about google coice, the phone calling application.

  • @justgivemethetruth I use Google Voice and I agree that when I receive an translated email of a voice message the quality is not as good. I think it has something to do with how the voice messages are recorded vs voice search. With the voice search you might be saying one or two words with an emphasis on being clear. With the phone message, it's quick, uses personal names and it seems that the person justs wants to get it done and over with.
