In the summer of 1991 Arne Benoni was recording in Nashville and while making an appearence at the Grand Ole Opry he met Dottie West backstage and they started talking about the Duets she had recorded with Jim Reeves in 1964 and he asked if they could record some songs together and Dottie loved the Idea.

So in July 1991 Dottie and Arne went into the recording studio to record this song with plans to record more. However fate stepped in on August 30th 1991, When Dottie was involved in a serious car crash on route to the Grand Ole Opry and Died a few days later on the 4th of September after a year of personal problems as the year before Dottie had to file for bankcruptcy because the people who managed her money were shady and spent it on Fraudulent investments and didn't pay her taxes which indebted her with the IRS for more than $2 million dollars, also her husband Al Winters filed for divorce and sued her for $7,500 dollars and two former managers suing her for hundreds of thousands of dollars. This turned out to be the last song she ever recorded

Dottie was left homeless, penniless yet she found the strength to go on, even though not many of her so called friends offered to help, albums, tours were planned but never came to be. Which is sad because Dottie was a woman who helped so many over her life time and no one ever returned the kindness.

Since Dottie died before an album could be made this song was put on one of Arne's albums as an album cut but in 2001 a producer released the single in Europe and was a huge hit on the european charts which is rare because by that time Dottie had been dead for 10 years.

  • Dottie s last recording was with my compatriot Arne Benoni, and it is completely wonderful.

  • I hate to throw more fuel on the fire But a lot of Artist in Nashville were so Jealous of the lady for her great talent and great look's They all piled on her when she got down .And they get on Country reunion and say how much they love their little Opry Family .They got people in the Hall Of Fame that did not even sing or play And some had just one song that might have Charted

  • Great duet from Dottie and Arne.

I heard this wonderful song for the first time and enjoyed it.

Thank you for very nice posting,

  • @MrKingsRow ...thank you.... very well said....!

  • @yedon68...I don't think Dottie was "black-listed" in Nashville...as such...I think sometimes Dottie was "misunderstood," and "way ahead of her time," and that sometimes scares people off...or raises eyebrows...or turns heads...but Dottie had the heart the size of Texas...and would have done anything for anyone...if she could...it's very sad that Nashville did not turn our for her in that way in her time of need...if Dottie were doing the things she did then...now...no one would think anything.

  • Dottie West was a wonderful expressive singer...and one of the top 5 country

vocalist ...why was she 'black~listed' in Nashville.?
