2010 Personal Ensign Stakes - Persistently

Persistently lived up to her name when she wore down reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra in the $300,000 Personal Ensign Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga Aug. 29 . In an ironic twist, the winning 20-1 shot is trained by Shug McGaughey, who also conditioned the undefeated Personal Ensign for the Phipps Family, owners of Persistently.

The Personal Ensign was Rachel Alexandra's first try at 1 1/4 miles and the final furlong told on the champion filly, who could not hold off the Alan Garcia-piloted Persistently even though she had about a two-length lead mid-stretch. Jockey Calvin Borel urged Rachel Alexandra furiously, but to no avail as Persistently swept past in the final strides.

It's too bad that Borel didn't settle her down a bit more off the pace - especially since this was her first outing at a mile and a quarter. It just seems like a very poor strategy. She was too lightly raced for this distance. Certainly this result was no reason to retire her - her time was far from terrible and very few races are at this distance. Too bad she's gone, can't wait to see how the Curlin foal she has turns out!

I'll say this Once or Twice, or maybe a dozen times. Nobody Cares What You Think. Your just the asshole of these blogs, the annoying fly people just want to swat at. Your have no compassion for horses, and seem not to care that this horse trys her hardest in every race. It doesn't matter is she won or lost. All that matters is.. When she retires as a multi-millionaire. Your going to be frying your eyes on the computer in your basement, looking for another reason to hate her. JERK

@1devilfish2 Plenty of you wannabes make me laugh!! Very few of you Rachel lovers have any clue about horse racing and just caught her hype. Most of you barely been in the game a year. Those that do know horses have left the room.

@duhru4real Again: The tongue has nothing to do with her respiration or her fitness or anything like that. It is nothing to be worried about. It does not influence racing results. It just doesn´t look nice. Some (race)horses put there tongues out. Yes, RA does it extremely this year. If you don´t know why she does it, remember how she was trained, perhaps then you will understand.

I don´t know if she will run in the Beldame, ask somebody who knows, perhaps her owner or trainer will tell you.
