Has anybody considered starting at C, and then placing a whole tone difference on every other mark? C D E F# G# A#, then do the same starting at G, A B C# D# F. Seems faster.

@308813062 although you need know something, say for example E is sharped in the key, E is no longer in use, or say for example E is sharped as an accidental only in one or more measures, it is no longer in use.
REMEMBER, Sharps aren't exactly the same thing as Flats.

at the bottom of the circle, there should be both six sharps and flats. dropping sharps and choosing flats is not correct, because it ruins the symmetry of the circle. i personally like sharps, but i do treat both sharps and flats equally.

Your quite right that there should also be an F# at the same place as the Gb (F# being an enharmonic of Gb). However, this video is about creating the circle of fifths - it's application (ncluding the use of enharmonics) is discussed and explained in my other videos: "Using the Circle of Fifths for Minor Keys" and "Using the Circle of Fifths for Major Keys". I hope these videos are useful to you.
Best wishes.
