Mania isn't what you think it is. There is a whole lot of gray matter around it. To read more and comment, please click on the top Beliefnet banner to go to Beliefnet.com or go directly to 'Beyond Blue' at http://blog.beliefnet.com/beyondblue/

  • I smoke cigarettes and my appetite increases when I become hypomanic, and then stop smoking and eating when I am depressed. My cycles occur more rapid every few weeks and more so if there is any type of stress in my life. Anyone else dealing with this type of bipolar?

  • I really liked this video, my manic depression follows a similar line to yours, and the part about your self esteem being so low that when your hypo-manic, you feel normal, thats totally how i get too!

    Thanx for sharing

  • when I get manic, I am possessed...

  • THAN YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!! <3 <3 <3

  • finally someone who speaks the truth, you always see people who WANT to be ill so they over react the symptoms and make out they have everything listed so you cant tell if you have it or not because people lying about it. but your the first person who is honest and hopes for better not worse, i have exact same thing as you i just dont sleep alot and have a really low self image, but somedays stop thinking about it and i get angry and bored easily that i would do childish things to get attention

  • i appreciate your clear thinking and speaking but you drone on too much and it makes for a boring video

  • Is it just me or is finding a way to label oneself comforting but stifling? Don't put a stamp on it, just live. You're not crazy it's just that you aren't thinking or acting inside of a box sometimes. So what?

  • Great clip, thanks for info

  • You look normal to me. If you have manic depression we must have a world full of people with manic depression and mental health problems undiagnosed. Perhaps we're better off not knowing about it like they don't or perhaps we'd be better of if they knew about it.

  • @ImpeachBarakObama ,,,, I totally agree with your approach, The pills turn you into a lifeless zombie, To feel ups and downs is normal and to have huge ups and downs can be a blessing if you learn how to ride them. I find comfort playing my guitar in my lows and great productivity in my mania.

  • You are alot like my mother and me with your bi-polar. I think though that if you had a good upbringing and haven't used drugs you may be able to stay well without meds? (like my mother) mostly using spiritual and positive self talk. Remember this is just my comments from the experiences I've had and those of my mother.
