Gergen is an honest conservative. His demeanor reminds me of a time in our country when Republicans didn't use hate and fear to win elections. Bush, Karl Rove, Hannity and Limbaugh have done tremendous disservice to the conservative movement. The first payback was two years ago. This election was the second. Expect a third in 2 years if they keep trying to use the same tactics

I agree. Conservative/republicans have used these tactics for 20-25 years. I begin gradually during the Reagan era. Code words like socialist, "the one", arrogant, "we really just don't know Obama," radical, extreme liberal, he is man that does not share our values, pro-America, red-blooded America. John McCain ran away from his maverick image because he was afraid he was going lose his extreme right base. If he ran as a true maverick he could have had 20 percent of Democrats vote for him
