  • To me it always seems that the horses are going much faster in older racing clips! Im not really sure it might just be me!

  • They are going much faster; film way back then was far from perfect with speed and sound not yet mastered.

    Take care.

  • Man, I wish all the race was released! I know all of it was filmed. I wonder what happened to those other 12 cameras.

  • I couldn't agree more. It would be awesome to see. Take care.

  • Wow, another piece of incredibal history. Man O War,

    the greatest of the greats.

    Keep up the good work

  • The great Man O' War's place on this channel is essential, and it's an honour to have him here. Hopefully, with luck, there will be more footage of him to come.

Thanks for the kind support. Have a great holiday weekend!

  • They simply don't come like that anymore. It's just Rare to see a Horse race a Galliant as that.

Film was slower then, and rarely is it played on the proper slow projector nowadays (this has improved in documentaries very recently). They tend to show it on fast modern projectors, which consequently speeds up the motion. That is why it seems faster - and people walking (frequently shown on old films in doc's) seem very choppy.

  • They tried to get Exterminator to participate this race but the 3 owners could not come to a compromise on the conditions of the race and so Exterminator was scratched, but raced that same day on a different track. If anyone out there knows what race that was and where PLEASE respond.

  • No really a match race, is it? Man O'War is cantering and still winning by ten lengths. Its possible the jockey on the other horse gave up.

  • anyone else notice how Man O War's mouth is gaping open at the end because he is UNDER WRAPS?!?!

    wow

  • It is fitting that Secretariat was called "Big Red". For that was the same exact nickname given to Man o' War. Two shining examples of the American Racehorse. Don't discount Sir Barton(sadly a failure at stud)he was a very high class runner (1st to win the US triple crown),he suffered from shelly feet and in this race he was suffering from it. Not to say he would have won,but he would have probably ran better, after all he had beat the great gelding Exterminator before. Only good 1's can do that

  • i love man o war he was such a good horse my dad was a little boy when he was race i wish we got to see he he was soo amazing!

    r.i.p man'o war

  • Anyone interested...you can find the audio of Man o War's funeral under media on the Claiborn farm website.

  • I just visited the National Racing Hall of Fame site and they seem to have old clips of champions...one has to download the Real Player and it's free for 14 days and then $14.00 a month after that...guess that's the only way to view the races and you may have to be a member???

  • Thank you, someone else noticed that! I just thought it looked so funny and random, lol.

  • You're right, they are standing on the fence!

    Great historic video.
