KCPT uncovers what is now being called, "the quiet crisis"... SCIENCE ILLITERACY. Kansas City wants to become a bioscience mecca, but who will fill all these promised new jobs? Fewer and fewer young people are going into science and there's growing alarm that America is raising a new generation that is scientifically illiterate. KCPT exposes the problem as Nick Haines hosts a Community Conversation, Science Illiteracy: The Quiet Crisis, featuring guests from the world of science, business and education.

  • The american education system comes from Prussia.... the model is flawed at the onset it is amazing to me that these clowns cannot rethink of a better model or see any causal relationship to the lack of litteracy and interest in science. Back in the 1870's litteracy rates were through the roof as educational systems were funded from the demand of entrepreneurs for specific skillsets, today these skillsets are imposed on us by bureaucrats. Education is worthless if it is guided by retards.

  • @ExquisiteDoom for the record, it's "literacy."

  • The guy with the golden hair summed up this argument earlier. He said Americans are only forced to learn what they love to learn. This argument may work for careers but it is flawed form an educational perspective. American students are given more latitude and control over their education than almost anywhere else in the world. While this approach may breed creativity and entraproneralship (for some, and I can't spell) it is failing the vast majority of our students.
