In car video from my 2001 Z06 Corvette at an open track day at Putnam Park road course in Mt. Meridian, Indiana (West of Indianapolis). Great shots of my friend Sam and his 2001 Viper GTS, also another red Z06, a Ferrari 360, a supercharged silver Z06 and others.

The back end of the car came around because I got on the gas too hard, too soon coming out of the corner. I tried one correction and felt it was better to get off the track instead of ending up sideways, stopped in the middle of the road. The runoff area out of that corner was just grass. Better to get out of the way than ball up the car trying too hard to keep in on the pavement. There is a lot to be said for going off the track straight ahead and not sideways too.

stick in aftermarket air intakes for roughly $200 and you'll get roughly 25hp+

and you spun out because you over corrected

  • that looks crazy fun

  • Dave, nice driving! It makes me long for my '93 300Z and another track day...

  • Great job , lots of fun.

  • I forget what kind of HP he had. He ended up tanking the motor that day. I'm not sure what happened.

  • Yeah - decided to leave my two off-track adventures on there. On the first one I got on the gas too quick and stepped the back end out. Traction and stability control were off and I was "playing" a bit to find the edge. Safe corner to do it. Not saying I did it intentionally, but you know... The second time off the track I botched the heel-toe downshift completely, but since then I have it down pretty good. Turn 7 at Putnam is a perfect corner for heel-toe.

  • Glad he was man enough to keep it in there. Common mistake made on the track, he lifted too hard mid corner, tossing weight up front.
