@eleventeen3: Do Make Say Think is known for their space rock and jazz work. I never said Explosions in the Sky was beyond 'post-rock', in fact, it is what comes to mind for most people regarding the term.
I never claimed 'quiet-loud' was a genre; I was stating that quiet-loud music can be pretty & instrumental. I think you became distraught upon your interpretation of my comment...

It's not pointless; it's how you decipher your interests within a certain group. Maybe comparing specific hip-hop bands to post-rock bands is pointless, because those are typically very different, but like you said, post-rock can be 'magical'--a trait you say they all share. Just remember, post-rock isn't the only genre of pretty instrumental bands. There's jazz (Do Make Say Think), ambient, IDM (think Mum), electronic (some Tortoise), then the main quiet-loud bands (Explosions) etc... :)
