Is it enough to discharge to metal UNgrounded objects (like unplugged pc case) or is it better to earth ground (touch earthed metal)?
Is it dangerous for the components to work on them earth grounded while they're in an ungrounded case ?

OK i see.

well for a athlon 64, you don't need a lot of power. remember this was in 2007.

It's actually pretty easy to do, just imagine that you're putting a fragile puzzle together. Taking one apart however, that's a whole nother story.

IMHO, frequently discharging myself to large metal objects lowers the risk enough. Sure, if I had some sort of grounding apparatus, I'd use it, but I don't have one; I have yet to damage a board in this way (to my knowledge)
