Just a little tribute to two of my favorite underrated actors of the 40s and 50s - Dana Andrews (1909-1992) and Glenn Ford (1916-2006), set to Helen Merrill's version of "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To". Dana would have turned 101 on January 1st, while Glenn would have been 94 on May 1st. Both of these guys were talented but are not as well remembered as they should be for their steady output and great performances in their movies. There was also a lovable quality about them. I used clips from the following films:

Dana:

Laura (1944)
Fallen Angel (1945)
State Fair (1945)
The Best Years Of Our Lives (1946)
Where The Sidewalk Ends (1950)

Glenn:

Gilda (1946)
The Loves Of Carmen (1948)
The Big Heat (1953)
Blackboard Jungle (1955)
The Courtship Of Eddie's Father (1963)

Enjoy!

  • i've never gotten Glenn Ford - don't care much for him - but am a huge Dana Andrews fan. The coupling of the two is odd..

  • @tallyho96 , they were both highly prolific actors in the 40s and 50s but very underrated - never even nominated for Oscars. In fact, it is said that Dana Andrews suffered from "the Glenn Ford Syndrome" - take from that what you will, but I think the meaning is obvious. They were alike in that respect - part of big films with costars that are considered legends yet they themselves seem to be largely forgotten.

  • Dana Andrews was and is underrated. He should have won the Oscar for THE BEST YEARS

OF OUR LIVES (not to besmirch Fredric March). Dana Andrews was appealing in SWAMP

WATER and outstanding in THE OX-BOW INCIDENT, LAURA, and that wonderful piece of Americana STATE FAIR. And don't forget the truly odd and one of a kind BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT.
