A test GTA4 short film by Overman.
My friend Ricky and I were playing around in "Free Mode" the other day, and I recorded some clips without much rhyme or reason. I thought it would be an interesting experiment to see what I could make of impromptu footage (i.e. footage not captured with the intent to make a movie). The result is a little scrappy, as would probably be expected, but gave me a good chance to better get to know the editing tools built into GTA4. It's clear that to make a film with really solid production values in this game will take some planning and care, just like in any other machinima platform. Much as the GTA "clip capture" feature tends to cater to the unplanned "Ooh, look what just happened" moments (versus full demo recording of games gone by), there's clearly a ceiling for what can be achieved by that haphazard approach.
With the right amount of planning and intentional capture, some really amazing stuff is possible in this game. It's seductive.
Song is "Homicyde" by The Prairie Cartel, from the GTA4 soundtrack. http://www.myspace.com/theprairiecartel
I have a feeling this would sound pretty good with "Born to be Wild" as the background music. :D

I bought Grand Theft Auto 4 solely on machinima possibilities. Looks like I wasn't mistaken.
