In Part 2 of this video series on reinventing the social change formula, David Gershon describes the gold standard of social change—changing behavior in ways that help society improve. Through his work with hundreds of thousands of people in communities around the world he has identified five qualities that enable real behavior change to occur. He describes the first two of those qualities in this video: the unitive field—the power of us together rather than the divisive and ultimately ineffective us and them and the evolutionary approach—building on existing and familiar behaviors. David uses the metaphor of a bud on a tree, the growing edge, to describe how people adopt a different behavior.
