@brp7636 Agree.

@expalman The chatter may have occurred after the video ends. Not too difficult to understand. But I agree, either way it isn't a close call.. but for a lot of people that aren't pilots, flying head on with a 747 within a few miles is a close call.

@brp7636 Certainly don't disagree with the fundamental priorities of a pilot as you state, but I don't understand how exactly that applies to what we were talking about in the discussion. Please explain.

@expalman Aviate, Navigate and THEN communicate. There are procedures for go-around and communicating with tower is not the first thing you do.
-
@expalman That would be a very expensive go-around exercise if it had to be done in a 747, practising usually is done in the sim. Kawadude111, you've certainly got some extra excitement for your money.

@HotDog12ist I know that the ATC audio was not in the track. Check exactly what I said in my posts, not what you think I said. "You" in my statements means the pilot with a headset on, not "you" the viewer of the video.
Thanks for listening.

@expalman on piper, all the radio comms goes to headphones not on loudspeaker... so no wonder ATC can't be heard on video, as well the sound quality is not the best..
Your statements are just way off....

@kawadude111 OK.. that makes perfect sense now. Everyone was expecting what happened... no-one was surprised. Just as I suspected from my first post, the chatter on the radio told you the story. This was not a close call, not a near miss, not much anything special.. just normal everyday flying. Just very interesting it was a 747 bearing down - - not something you see everyday.
There are not opposing ILS approaches on that runway. You may have been on an ILS approach, but the other way is a GPS approach with lateral and vertical navigation (NOT ILS).
You did not mention anything about the chatter on the radio.. if the 747 was told to "go-missed"... you would have heard that. Everyone needs to practice approaches, even 747 pilots. SO, strong evidence that the 747 was never intended to land, he was just doing a practice approach with a missed. Not a close call.

@expalman Well the Tower controller told the 747 to "Go Around" after we landed. When we were cleared for the approaches, the controller stated "In the event of a go around, Heavy 747 turn east, and the Piper will turn west for the climbout"

I don't buy it. If that was really an unscheduled go-around by the 747, you would have heard a lot of chatter on the ATC. No chatter? I think because the 747 was simply doing a practice approach and continuing with the missed approach. Why would the 747 be landing opposite direction? Answer: the ILS approach is in the direction oppisite the wind.

@expalman Both on IFR flight plans. Cleared for ILS approaches. Calm winds.

@expalman The 747 was instructed to go around by the Tower controller.
