  • I lived in Cleveland '77-'78 and was smart enough at 23 years old to spend most Thursday nights at a dive bar in the Flats called the Pirate's Cove. Thursdays were Ubu's night there. They always played and would have a guest band (Destroy All Monsters, DEVO). They were recording The Modern Dance then, so you can imagine how brilliant they were. You'd expect them to play this song for an encore, but much of the time they ignored it altogether and would instead do Sloop John B of all things.

  • this song IS my solution.

  • The cutoff at 2:28 with the nuclear destruction line was most definitely taken by the strokes at the end of "ize of the world" at the line cities to vaporize, directly after cities to vaporize, its way too much of a coincidence

  • pere ubu is one of the few artists who can stretch beyond punks limitations. if you know anybody who doubts punks talent you should send them a copy of this, what a fucking scorcher!

  • Pere Ubu makes me proud to be from Ohio. I grew up in Columbus, and before I moved to NYC I used to perform in Cleveland all the time (it still has a great music scene). We used to playa t the Pirates Cove and I always felt honored, playing the same stage that Pere Ubu had.

  • The only band where a tone-deaf singer can actually fit in very well and still sound amazing.

  • Great tune - anyone else pick up on the musical quotation of Hawkwind? (the second half: the "whooo-whoo-ooo-ooo" part.

  • Incredible...

  • Pere Ubu is great. This song however I know from a band called ,,the Honolulu Mountain Daffodils. Check it out on you-tube!~!

  • Capolavoro!!!!

  • I've read about this song for a while, and hearing it for the first time tonight, can agree that it is fucking great.

  • ...and thank god they've remained something beyond the pidgeonholing sleepy walls of definition. As I lived across the pond, my first impressions of them came with DubHousing, just later getting in hindsight touch with the modern dance.. anyway, it was mental revolution all the same. America's anti-pre-post-modern most well hidden secret for the world to discover...and counting... they're like a prankst cenotaph to the unknown modern rock hero.
