Hirap ng Umibig by Joel Malit

I transcribed this piece in 1994 on tablature based on an audio cassette recording of the Master of Guitar Kundiman - Pedro Concepcion. I edited the transcription last November 2010 based on the mp3 that was given to me by Mr. Mar Mendoza.

I stopped playing the guitar in 1997 and it was only in 2008 when I first try to record my guitar playing on video and found myself unable to play well. It was Mr. Mendoza who encouraged me to play the guitar again, so in 2010, I brought my guitar here in Saudi Arabia. Last 2011, I brought another guitar, a vintage one and this will be my instrument for interpreting some of the remaining transcriptions I did from the 5 albums of vintage Philippine guitar music played by Juan Silos Jr. and by Pedro Concepcion.

This is my first time to play and record the piece and I never played it before even in the past 17 years. I hate this lowering of the bass strings of the guitar coz it takes some time to regain back the correct tune of the guitar strings. And in time, this will damage the gears of the tuning pegs and the strings will dig deeper into the nut, or the strings will get damaged. Last December 2011, I decided to start playing the piece for the first time since I have 2 guitars now here with me in Saudi Arabia, I reserved the Craftman guitar for this task. I also hate to play while reading the piece and I could not memorize it either. So excuse my very bad rendition here. But I will replace this video as soon as I memorized the piece and I will use the vintage guitar next time...whenever I have time,

Never na magustuhan ko ang mga gawa nya. Mahirap makalimutan yung treatment nya sa akin noon. Anyway, I'm going to retire soon...matapos ko lang i-upload yung lahat ng kapa ko. Hello Joel. Sa wakas nai-post ko rin ang version ko. Pero hindi ko ma-capture yung soul ng music tulad ng pagtugtog mo. Tuloy pa rin ang pag-aaral ko ng phrasing at ikaw ang model ko. Salamat.

@pasigenyo Thanks Raffy, sorry, ngayon ko lang nakita tong comments mo. Aabangan ko ang version mo nito, wala pa kasi akong narinig na ibang gitarista dito sa youtube ng version nito. Hindi kaya ng mic ko na i-capture ang talagang sound nitong mga gitara ko. Mas maganda ang sound pag narinig mong personal. Magkaiba talaga lahat ng sound ng gitara, at mas maganda sa kundiman yung vintage ko. Salamat Bro. Hanga rin ako sa iyo at mas magaling ka kaysa akin. Yan ang totoo.

Joel - ang ganda ng rendition mo, gusto ko tuloy itong aralin. Ewan kung meron akong arrangement nito pero hahanapin ko pag-uwi ko sa bahay. Parang mas balanced ang tunog nitong Craftman mo keysa Yairi pero ewan ko kung dahil sa recording lang yun. Anyway, kahit anong gitara ang tugtugin mo e hanga pa rin ako sa tone at phrasing mo. Salamat.
