Here is part one of this classic Steve Dahl interview with comedy legend Sam Kinison who was a regular guest on the show. The interview aired in June of 1988 on the old Loop AM 1000 (WLUP) and features Garry Meier and then newsperson Carrie Cochran.
The interview aired about three weeks after Sam's younger brother committed suicide, as is referenced quite prominently in this piece. Sam came into the studio not realizing that Steve & Garry were on the air, he even drops the F bomb about a minute and a half in, and talks candidly about the horrible family tragedy. But, in usual Sam Kinison style, as well as Steve Dahl style, there are no limitations on what is open game for humor.
Sam also references the lawsuit that was filed against from a former production company that he was going to make a movie with, as well as his ongoing conflict with Bobcat Goldthwait that eventually spilled over into the Howard Stern show (which is funny since there has always been the ongoing conflict between Steve Dahl and Howard Stern since Howard always claimed that Steve ripped him off. That of course makes no sense since Steve Dahl was on the air when Howard was still in college!)
Enjoy this classic bit of free-form comedy radio from the originator of the genre!

    Hell yeah! Thanks for listening!!

  • thanks for this im from ireland and just recently heard of sam, hes super got some live stuff and this interview its great, many thanks

  • @paddioche Thanks for listening... Sam was a true original, if you look on this page there are actually two other Sam Kinison interviews; one is the first Steve & Garry interview with Sam, but it's only partial, and the other is Sam with guitarist Slash. Of course there are tons of other vids of Sam here on YT as well. You might also look further into Steve Dahl the original free-form comedy radio DJ, as well as Bill Hicks, George Carlin, and the original 'extreme' comedian Lenny Bruce. Later.

  • The Steve and Garry show has been canceled cause' Sam didn't know he was ON THE AIRRRR OH OHHHH!!! gotta love Sam....

  • @Fourthplanet2487 Sam was the king!!

  • Steve Dahl is the greatest!!

  • The FCC needs to die. It's blatantly unconstitutional, you SHOULD be able to swear on the air.

I know Steve is working on releasing classic stuff via his website (and more than likely iTunes, etc.) but for now the only place that I've seen any 'bonus' material of classic bits is via the DahlCast app. Soon this channel may be unnecessary and obsolete (though what I have is quite limited compared to Steve's archives).

If you ever find those other Sam Kinison appearances send me a message, I'd love to post them here or at least here it, Sam with S&G was always a great time!

  • @rowemowe yeah sk w/ slash (i dint know who he was) was laugh til you cry funny

slash said he'd just got out of rehab at a place that made you dig your own grave ...

with a spoon! - oh man i died laughing when i heard that line

  • This brings back such GREAT memories! I heard this live and recorded it. I must have listened to it a thousand times. I let a friend borrow the tape and never got it back :(

Thanks for posting, ShockJock. I also had copies of the other apperances Sam did on the Steve and Gary show. On one of them, Slash of Guns and Roses came in with Sam....so funny.

    I may have that one.

Does Steve post any of those shows on his podcast? I've since moved out of state.

  • It is amazing that they consider it the "public airwaves" but then control every aspect of them (including content!) but of course I'm sure they would say that it's for the public's "greater good" and all that.

Pirate radio is a matter of spectrum allocation though (yes, I too am a nerd) and as I obviously don't know anything about your case it usually boils down to that.
