  • In 1964 "Shangri La" was a major hit for one of its composers, harpist Robert Maxwell & his orchestra. A vocal by Vic Dana was out at the same time. Maxwell & Matty Melnick wrote the tune back in 1946. The term Shangri-La originated in the 1933 novel, "Lost Paradise". Hit Records was a budget label of knock-off songs, usually sold in grocers or variety stores like Woolworth's for less than 50 cents.
