The troop surge of US combat forces into Iraq during 2007 was credited for stopping the sectarian violence and preventing Iraq from dissolving into civil war. However, the latest wikileaks war document release proves that the country was already becoming less violent by the start of the surge. It now seems the surge simply allowed the US to save face as it set up to pull out of the country it had utterly devastated for the previous four years.

  • You are incorrect. The surge took about 18 months to demonstrate its true effect. Look at today's statistics. The Sunni Awakening plead a major role with overall stability. Your argument is baseless when not considering current statistics. Failure.

  • LOL. Revisionist nonsense. The Surge worked. Deal with it.

  • George W. Bush and Dick Cheney should have been placed on trial for treason and high crimes. Reason...their LIES about weapons of mass destruction that ended up causing the USA to go into an unnecessary war that lasted for years. We still have people there. Iraq was MUCH BETTER OFF under a dictator of their own country (Saddam Hussein), compared to being invaded, occupied and held accountable to the USA. USA's foreign policy here, "Democracy AT GUNPOINT".

  • While negotiations should be peaceful, I think in history, many negotiations were backed up with force. Of course having an upper hand in the military end of things gives you more leverage.

As Mao Tse Tung would say:

"All Power Comes From the Barell of the Gun"

  • Shame on our countries officials for spinning this whole deal then and now. The people of this great country deserve better from these elected public servants.
