This is a compilation of pictures taken at Adak Naval Air Station, AK. Most were taken during 1987-88 when I lived there. Hope you enjoy.

on adak from 75-79 and 84-86. Husband worked at NavFac. Scenery was awesome!.There for the McDs opening!
hiked out to Shagak on a sunny day in Jan 86. View of Kanaga was amazing. wish we could visit again some day. i recall the first time there, food was hard to get due to bad storms, commissary had all the freezers turned off, and if you had no fish in your freezer, you did not eat. second tour we had shortages of hot dogs, and cereal.

What good memories of NAS Adak, Alaska when I was there. Were a lot of really good people out there. Worked in Public Works as an electrician from 1987 to 1990. So sorry to see all of the vandalism of the base now. Thought that the Navy had given the base to the Alaskan Natives to make it in to a island city...

great shots. i was there in 82-83...what a trip that was to fly in to the island for the first time! wow, i thought i had died and gone to hell! but, i soon learned it was not so bad and even ended up loving it there. i'd love to go back sometime. i worked at NSGA Shotgun Bullseye division. we lived in the barracks on the hill, C-dorm room 222! what a blast from the past! i'm glad to see so many people who love adak. she's in my heart forever.

@treyausmus Okay, you left the island the year I got there, right on. I loved that place and I am planning on making the trip back out there in the next couple of years.

@1twistedworld I went thru 7th,8th, and 9th grades there. i left adak june of 89 so i finished 9th there.

@treyausmus Sorry, I forgot you already mentioned you were there from 86-89. What grade were you in when you left the island?

@treyausmus Both. When I got to Adak I was ending my sixth grade year. What years were you there?

@treyausmus I was a Navy dependant there as well from 88-89. I had lots of fun and got into lots of trouble.

Good shots, one note though, the island shot at 1:22 is Shemya Island (Eareckson Air Station)

I put that shot of Shemya on there because like alot of other people i am told that was the last part of the aleutians you saw when you left the island.
