Yeah! Old school is awesome! Beauty and the beast singing ftw :D
-
yeah the old school gothic metal influenced by doom metal!
-
@TwilightAronXD Exactly you know what you are talking about. Gothic Metal was born from Metal bands who also liked eighties Gothic Rock bands such as The sisters of Mercy Fields of the Nephilim and The Mission. Gothic Rock mostly disappeared in the nineties and was absorbed into the Metal scene who kept it alive with bands such as Paradise Lost and the early Gathering.

@AsiDie888. wow... i truly did never have such a major idiot respond to some 11 month old comment before...
mdb sound nothing like pl. they are considered a bad imitation of pl by not a single person in the entire doom scene. only by you, but nobody cares about you.
theatre of tragedy's album is seen both as death/doom or as gothic, quite like how iron maiden is both heavy metal and power metal.
their second album is also gothic metal. they are not and never were symphonic metal.

@lygophile blah blah blah blah motherfucker shut up.......Paradise lost with their ideas and their compositions INVENTED gothic metal albums like gothic and shades of god are defining gothic metal.beauty and the beast vocals are commonly seen at symphonic metal bands such as THEATRY OF TRAGEDY(although theit debut album was pure gothic metal)...My Dying Bride are widely known as a bad imitation of PL.They're crap and use recycled riffs from older songs.moron dont you ever post such a sermon

@wildespace very well said :) it's sad that people these days connect gothic metal with bands like Evanescence, Lacuna Coil and HIM
-
Early gothic metal was mostly doom/death bands inspired by the gothic rock scene (bands like Sisters of Mercy and Christian Death). It's hard to define ''true gothic'' metal, but it all started with doom :)
Yes, the true Gothic Metal is an off-shot from Doom-Death metal, and shares the slow/mid tempo, sad and gloomy atmosphere, and the growling vocals. What makes it gothic is themes of romance, tragedy, mistery, supernatural. I think that Theatre of Tragedy were the best in that genre. Gothic music literally means theatrical music, where the atmosphere and poetic lyrics are definitive.
