Non-motorized trail system along the Lower Rouge River located just north of Michigan Avenue.
Construction of a non-motorized trail system along the Lower Rouge River began in Fall of 2007, in an effort to meet the residential demand for more outdoor recreation and as a joint venture between Canton Municipal Services, Canton Leisure Services, Wayne County, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Construction of the entire trail system is a multi-phase project that will take years to complete. Once completed, the Lower Rouge River Recreation trail will run along a 4 mile stretch of the scenic Lower Rouge River from Canton center Road to Hannan Road.
The first phase will include a trail head at Morton Taylor Rd. north of Michigan Avenue, in addition to an approximate 1.5 mile trail section. The trail head and section will be open to the public starting June 7, 2008, and can be used for mountain biking, cross country skiing, running, and walking.
