What's a good needle size and stitching to learn?

start off with size 8 or bigger...wooden or bamboo is better...i use bamboo still and love the feel of them..use cheap yarn like red heart 4 ply to work with.....the best book to learn is when it is geared to teach kids...very simple...once you get the hang of knit stitch and purl stitch you got it made...oh and dont worry it is very normal to get frusterated...it took me forever to finally get it....just keep on trying...
