Here we come to the third infamous scene in the special: the fight between Caesar and Butch. Even though Caesar is a new character, this plot element is just as important here as it was in the book. Butch actually fought another dog that we never see (or read, in this case) again, but the implications of the fight remain the same: Butch is badly injured and all the dogs in his pack, even solitary Solo, help him get better. My only complaints about the fight scene is how bad the animation really is and how Caesar just wimps off at the last minute. Then again, it's not surprising since it was made on such a low budget.

I shall also have to apologise for the skip at 9:40. If there's anything to blame, it's my VCR.

  • I never did like Solo the Scotty at first, He acted like a total Asshole toward Scruffy and blamed her for Butch's being badly injured in the brawl with Caesar which I thought that was totally messed up on Solo's part.

  • @bigg34691 If you thought Solo was screwed here, you should read the book! He would attack ANY dog that got in his way and Butch, being the pack leader, was the only dog who was able to set him straight.

  • What kind of dog do you think Caesar is?

  • @gnortonshores Definitely a Mastiff-mix, perhaps with a labrador.

  • @gnortonshores growing up I thought great dane now I KNOW that's not right though the height & boady shape is similar but the head is ALL wrong particularly the jowl area & the ears...

  • @gnortonshores I agree on the Mast-ador call or a large Pit Bull. Now how about Sam? Griffon Pointer?

  • Go butch! kick his but!

  • This is such a hard life for stray dogs and cats! Great film! Thanks so much for posting it!

  • @CairnTerrier69 I highly doubt he would have contributed very much, if at all, to "Lady"; according to his IMDb credit (which is fairly accurate in places but not the most reliable) he mostly worked for the shorts department while there, as animator and director, and carries animation duties for "Pinocchio" and "Alice in Wonderland". There's no denying he was influenced by Lady's look, which carries into the character designs.

  • @kkimler2424 Carl Nichols...the animator who directed "Scruffy" originally worked at Disney and was a big contributor to "Lady and the Tramp". I would not call it a rip off, other than Nicols' style of animation.

  • @gnortonshores I'd say he's a Lab/Pit Bull cross. His head has that Terrier block look. Tail has that Lab curve. :)
