In the Los Angeles Fashion, district thousands of small animals are sold to the public year with no regard to public health risks or protection for the animals themselves. Tortoise Rescue -www.tortoise.com is a 20-year old nonprofit dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of all terrestrial species of turtles and tortoises. Produced by Multimedia/Multicultural video producer Marshall Thompson, marshall@prvideo.tv, 310-403-2507

  • Was at Santee Alley yesterday... purchased a water turtle for $5.00, I guess I rescued the poor little guy for awhile, but I don't think he will live long. Reptiles need warm filtrated water at all times and I am on a fixed income that's something I can't give him for now.. plus I just read these turtles can carry Salomenella.

  • This is horrible. I remember when I was little, we'd go shopping here for clothes and my mom and I would always look with sadness in our hearts at all the little animals. This needs to stop. It's inhumane.

  • @ikutsu2001 I'm Mexican. I love Animals and so does the rest of my family. Please don't make generalizations.

  • Oct 1st 2001?

  • sad!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are now selling small sick puppys this must all stop

  • Years ago when I was young and lived in L.A i had one of those turtles. I would always ask my mom for one when we went to Santee Alley, she usually said no :| i think i only got one once.

  • unfortunately its a result of how they were raised to treat animals, with as little regard as possible. im part mexican & ive seen the horrors of the trade first hand all over the streets of mx. they come up to the usa & bring their ideas of making money through selling cute little animals becos they know how much we love baby animals. however they dont stay babies & these animals are poorly treated, barely given the most basic care & little to no protection from the elements. its very cruel

  • The bunnies are under developed they are only 10 days probably and they are only legally sold after about 8 weeks. I agree with you they are miserable.

  • I bought my bunny there. $20 bucks :)

  • turtles aren`t the only animals in santee alley. I always see mexicans selling tiny little baby bunnies. the bunnies also look miserable
