Turns out this song was written in 1986 ... one of the few fight songs composed after the 1930s that was actually written as a fight song. Ironic that UNLV has an original song while its "parent" school, Nevada, borrowed "Down the Field" from Yale and Tennessee and renamed it "Hail Sturdy Men."

A lot of people don't realize (ESPECIALLY STUDENTS AND ALUMNI ALIKE) that UNLV's fight chant has lyrics. And I would love for them to be shown up on the Billboards again.

Notice how the cheer portion (UNLV, UNLV, Go, Fight Win) resembles UCLA's Sons of Westwood's "UCLA UCLA Fight, Fight, Fight". This song was written as the UNLV basketball program was coming to national prominence, and a decade after UCLA's string of 10 national championships in 12 years. The implication is that UNLV "borrowed" their cheer from UCLA. And they are not the only one--the cheer portion of the San Diego State fight song (Fight on ye Aztec Men) is "SDSU, SDSU Aztecs Fight!"

@edgehringer You know, that sounds valid! I may say SDSU had modified it a bit because it would be impractical to clap thrice in such a short amount of time. Maybe I-15 made the spread of that chant possible. :)
