Charles Warner is haunted by a night in his youth where he stood frozen, unable to help his drowning friend. Now older and still unable to cope with his past, Warner is befriended by an unlikely messenger that forces him to forget about his past and move on. Warner, however, is unsure of the messenger's intentions and becomes unstable. Will Charles live to see progress, or will his bitter past haunt him until his death?
