As Australia Day 2012 approaches we look back to an Australia of 40 years ago. A "futuristic" computer centre assumes the task of collecting information on Australia, and assembling a report. The audience sees and hears the report as it issues from the computer by means of audio-visual images of Australia in the seventies. The film was made to inform a sophisticated audience about what is happening in Australia now, and what is likely to happen in the next decade. Through the computer's TV monitor the viewer participates in a thorough dissection of Australia: the country , the people, the mood of the times in which we live.
Made by the Australian Commonwealth Film Unit 1971. Directed by Keith Gow.
1970's. Minerals, mining. Economy booming!
2012. Minerals mining . Economy still booming in minerals and mining.
Difference now is all none mineral and mining Economic activity is stagnant and diminishing with very poor minority Labor Goverment management.

With the quality problems we seem to have here in the United States, if we have to import from anywhere, I'd rather buy from Australia. I'd like to visit Australia and possibly live in Australia. The needs in Australia seem very silmilar to those of the United States. To be entertained, to be educated, transportation, sport, exercise, etc.

Thank god Australia doesn't look like this today, much more opportunity and progress with a more open view of the world. Not the backward isolated less educated behind the times land it once use to be. Keep up the good progress Australia!

Back Then
Future - Unknown
Potential - Enormous
Today
Future - An Industrial Graveyard with Manufactoring gone over seas.
Potential - Still Enormous if Gillard and Bob Brown are out.
