(Pt.2of 2) I had the idea to make it into a rails to trails (for bikes). Now, an hour later, I see this video of yours and I find that it is a walking park. That's nice too. I am interested in rail bikes. Now that I see that rails are still in place I want to use them for the bike path portion. It would be cool to invent a rail riding platform that you could place your bike on top of (trainer style) to power yourself along the rail from one end of the old highline to the other.

(Pt.1of 2) Cool! An hour ago I was watching your bike ride down 9th street and I went to Google Earth and began exploring the lower East side for the start of the bike lane. I didn't find that but I did discover the old elevated train line, which in g-earth is still undeveloped. I thought it was so odd that it hadn't been removed. Buildings are built right over the top of it. Other lines just end against a brick wall.

The garden I get yet why the rails are there in the first place remains a mystery

i love the botox bit

Well, you could start a "Friends of the Bikeline" and campaign for an elevated bicycle park! I guess people would argue we cyclists already have that with the different bridges with bike lanes around here ... interestingly, the weeds are starting to grow over the railway details. Some needs to get in there with some hedgeclippers ...

It was an elevated rail trestle --- unless I am misunderstanding the question ... as of Aug 17 the weeds are growing very nicely indeed.
