http://amanuningbie.com The Year of the Priest has been proclaimed by the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, for the period of June 19, 2009 (Feast of the Sacred Heart) to the same feast day in 2010. the observance is held throughout the world to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Mary Vianney, Patron of Parish Priests, who said, PRIESTHOOD IS THE LOVE OF THE HEART OF JESUS. The main objectives of the YEAR OF THE PRIEST IS THE SANCTIFICATION OF PRIESTS AND INCREASE IN NUMBER OF ZEALOUS AND HOLY PRIESTS. THE HOLY FATHER himself has chosen for this yearlong observance the theme"THE FAITHFULNESS OF CHRIST, THE FAITHFULNESS OF THE PRIEST". Another objective of this observance is the creation of a greater awareness among our people of the indispensable role of priests in our communities and of the need to pray for, and promote vocations to, the ordained ministry.
