Greetings once again everyone! There's a great deal of sunlight this morning, although still quite a bit of snow on the ground, so it's a perfect day to gaze out the window and stretch out in a patch of sunlight and relax with a good pipe and tobacco :-)

The pipe I'm smoking for you here today is my very first Savinelli Autograph, which is also the very first pipe I ever bought at a pipe show (St. Louis pipe show, 1995) which I figured was appropriate, given that my other half and I, along with our buddy Craig, will be heading down to the pipe show next weekend in St. Louis. I've also chosen a tobacco I purchase locally there, a nice heavy English (and I still have a little bit of my 1999 stock of this tobacco left when I bought quite a lot of it in bulk the first time I went to the shop there)

As always, it's great to hear your comments, thoughts, and ideas and I look forward to more, perhaps getting 'out of the cave' once the weather begins to warm :-)

Love, peace, and happiness all...

Tom

Update: Upon arrival at the St. Louis pipe show I learned the sad news that Mr. John Dengler, proprietor of John Dengler Tobacconist, Inc., passed away on January 8th, 2008 at the age of 82

  • Tom, that's a beautiful Savinelli! I like the Autographs because they're not so 'over the top' overstyled like many Italian pipes seem to be (just my opinion). What's in that 'Bagdad'? Non-aromatic?

I've been mulling over hopping down to Las Vegas (my least favorite place on Planet Earth) for the pipe show there over the Halloween weekend. Haven't decided yet ....

  • Howdy there Tom! Thanks so very much ;-) I'd have to agree with the overstyling, LOL (although there are some pretty wacky autographs and Ardors out there--not to mention some Ser Jacopos that have some questionable shapes, :-P )

Bagdad is a non-aromatic, but the recipe is a shop secret--all I know is I like it quite a bit, and there's a good deal of latakia in it!

Did you make it to Las Vegas for the pipe show? I hope it was a good one for them--Kansas City usually has its show then...

  • I just purchased my first Savinelli, mine is an autograph 4 and I think I might start buying more Savinelli, its my most beautifully grained piece, nice thick walls that dwarve the rest of my otherwise large pipes and most importantly, one of my best smokers.

  • Congratulations on the purchase! At the Autograph level, the grain is really outstanding on the Savinellis...all the way from the 4, up to the 000E (although my highest is only a 0 and most of mine are 4, 5, and 6, with a few 8s thrown in for good measure, LOL!) I've always found them to be remarkably good smokers and it sounds as though you've discovered that as well :-)

  • Shit man! i must throw a way my cicars and start again smokeme pipe! looks tasty!

  • Heh...thanks so much :-) Don't get rid of your cigars anytime soon, though--I love 'em just as much as my pipes and they're a pleasure all their own! :-)

  • Nice pipe Tom . God bless , michael

  • Hrmm...since Shel likes the straights and you like the bents, we'll make it an even split, eh? :-)

  • Howdy there, make--the piece is called 'Are You Going With Me?' from Pat Metheny's early 1980s days :-)

  • background music? what is it?
