IITians raise pitch, want Buddhi free-News-Exclusives-TIMESNOW.tv

It's been an unending nightmare for Vikram Buddhi. Once a research scholar at a leading American university, the former IIT graduate has spent the last three years in a US jail, accused of posting hate messages against George Bush. But now Buddhi's links with IIT may come in handy.

Ashok Kalbag, Secretary General. Pan-IIT Alumni India said, "When I went through a lot of papers, which indicated what the defences were and how things have got right, I could not believe that it could happen, especially when you talk about so much of liberty."

Now, Vikram's alma mater feels enough is enough. Ashok added, "We certainly hope, like I have said earlier, that we will be able to use the network to get to people who are in a position to do something about this."

Vikram Buddhi's plight first drew sympathy, but now there is anger raging with questions asked of the American justice system. Somnath Bharti, IIT Alumnus said, "The judge did not follow the protocol. The judge is duty-bound to instruct the jury on the law, which the judge refused on record."

"When the defence attorney in his closing remarks, tried to link the evidence along with the law, he was threatened by the judge with embarrassment," added Somnath.

The IIT alumnus also said, "The jury in their deliberation was confused and they did write a note to the judge saying that we find contradictions in your statements."

With the IIT exercising its global clout, the family of the young engineer can only hope that Vikram Buddhi gets the justice he deserves.
