Ok i bought this item from ebay (new i remind you) less then a month ago and it worked fine for the first week, my setup is 4 2tb western digital drives, windows vista ultimate 32bit and a laptop with vista ultimate 64 bit, filesystem is ntfs (not 2tb max legacy) and partitioned to 16tb. Like i said it worked fine for the first week then studying would give me read errors after 15mins of turning on. Contacted support and they gave me the new 1.3.1 update and said it would fix my issue, it didnt and was fed up so i just formatted my drives since i was getting helped over email, very annoying. Anyhow now the problem is Drobodash is registering the drobo just fine but vista isnt, tried on both vistas i have (32bit and 64bit). I see the drive letter on desktop but when i click on it it says format drive. Thanks in advance for all help.

  • I guess they forgot to put common sense under the system requirements...

  • This guys not that smart. IT's vista, vista can't recognize anything. I know it's an old video, but before posting on YouTube, check other resources. Drobo is nice, you just need to know how to use it.

Hope it's doing fine right now.

  • @billyrowe0064 i also connected machine to xp, later i found out was at the time drobo had issues with the type of western digital harddrives i was using, its not because its vista.

  • May I tell you than my serious data loss happened when I used Drobo 2 and Droboshare. I moved a big directory on the volume on a Windows XP and lost connection via LAN. After that I restarted Droboshare but was not more able to find any data. Dashboard reported all green. My guess is that Dorob is to slow to update the FAT table. Support now telling me that Drobo it is not for daily use. Only for backup purpose.

  • not for daily use? oh thats rich, i want DAILY backups not monthly

  • Yes, Drobo is a proprietary piece of junk, but nobody should be losing data because their Drobo fails. If you don't have a backup, your data is at risk regardless. All a RAID system does is keep your storage online while you swap out a failed drive. There are many more ways you can lose data than a drive failing. A Drobo will help with none of these. None of this is helped by Drobo's extremely misleading marketing. Read the very fine print - even they recommend you maintain separate data backups

  • FreeNas ftw!

  • lol 'Thank you Drobo'

  • Vista? You have yourself to blame for this one.

  • THE MONEY THAT COSTED YOU. YOU COLD OF BUILS YOUR OWN NAS OUT OF OLD PC. I DID AND ITS STILL GOING STRONG NO PROBS I USE UNRAID :)

  • @billyrowe0064 Nothing wrong whit drobo, it's windows vista that's your problem.

  • I got to the point in the text where he said "Vista laptop" and "Vista pc" and also "32 bit" and thought this guy must be retarded or something.

So im betting this is user error.

    Vista...hahhahaha

  • Only format via drobo dashboard
