Love Song // Part 1
(AN: Today- Tuesday- is my last day of summer vacation. Boo.)
"Get out of my car." I say sternly.
"What? Why?" Joe questions loudly, clearly confused. Then he adds, "We're going to the same place!"
"Ashley likes this, Ashley likes that. We did this, we did- blah blah blah. That's all I hear from you nowadays, Joe! I don't want to hear about all that crap! Why don't you ask me how I'm doing for a change?! It's all about you and your female dog of a girlfriend!" That was it. He had made me crack. Joe had been stuffing me with his pointless words for a few months now and I couldn't hold it in any longer.
"Demi, come on. I just like her a lot." Joe defends quietly. I scoff.
"Please. What's so special about Ashley?" I ask. "Hm?" I watch Joe stutter for a second. "I'm not so sure what you see in her but please, tell someone else about it."
"We need to get back." Joe whispers, shrinking in to his seat. I see that he's right, it's almost midnight, and I reluctantly throw my car in to Drive and step on the gas, pulling out in the street.
I pull into the parking lot of Joe's apartment building. I get out, slamming my door, not even waiting up for Joe. I shove my key in the lock and go inside, resisting the urge to lock Joe out behind me. I quickly stride in to the bedroom and pull two pillows off, bringing them into the main room.
"What are you doing?" Joe asks, locking his door.
"I'm gonna sleep on the couch." I tell him. I go back into the bedroom and Joe follows.
"Demi, you don't have to." He says.
"I want to." I say back through my clenched teeth. I pull a few blankets off Joe's bed and drag them out and throw them on the couch. Then, I collapse on top of them, sighing.
"What is your problem?" Joe asks sternly.
"My problem? You. You and your girlfriend are my problem. I may not be able to tell you who you can and can't date, but I sure can tell you when I've had enough of hearing about it!" I tell him, standing back up to be more level with him, though I was still significantly shorter. "I thought we went over this in the car already?!"
"I don't care! I just want to understand. I can't lose you, Demi!" Joe says, his eyes glistening. "I've already lost so many important people in my life. You're my best friend. I just- I can't lose you." He says, whispering. I stare at him for a moment then I gently shake my head.
"Lose me? Joe, you'll never lose me." I assure him.
"Then help me. Help me understand." Joe tells me.
"Just shut up about Ashley. I don't like hearing about her." I explain.
"But why?" he asks, confused. I shrug.
"I just don't."
I wake up in the morning, feeling like I'm floating on a cloud. Joe's bed is definitely the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. I sigh, pulling the fluffy duvet up to my bare shoulders. Joe groans and rolls over, his eyes blinking open. I smile.
"Morning."
"Good morning," he replies with his raspy morning voice, sending shivers up my spine. Joe props himself up on his elbow then leans over me to reach for his phone on the bedside table. I take that quick moment to marvel at his chest. He flops back down next to me, powering on his iPhone. I just close my eyes, pressing my nose to his bicep. I drift off but only for a few minutes until I hear Joe. "Crap." He mumbles. I open my eyes and look up to see him rubbing his face.
"What?" I ask.
"It's Ashley's birthday today." Joe tells me.
"Aww, did you forget about it?" I pretend to be sad for him.
"It's not funny, Dem. I didn't get her a gift or anything. She's probably expecting a gift and some nice dinner. What am I gonna do?" he groans.
