That is not true (for the most part). New vinyl will usually play quieter than old vinyl, and that is where it ends. New vinyl lacks transparency, depth, punch, leading edge of notes, etc. It is not engaging, sounds dead, and puts me to sleep.

Properly pressed old vinyl (which is hard to come by) blows the sonic doors off of new vinyl and anything digital.

No-one in this video handles the records properly. I agree for the most part older cuttings & pressings are superior. Virgin pelletized vinyl has become VERY expensive in recent years so most of today's pressings are from recycled vinyl. The vast majority of primo pressing plants eg the Victor plant in Japan were closed in the 90's and with them the highly skilled lathe operators who cut acetates from master tape. There are exceptions like Mobile Fidelity & Music On Vinyl, worth seeking out.

I'd argue vinyls on the way in- the only reason CDs became popular is for convenience- their inferior in sound quality and there's just not the magic in the experience of playing a vinyl in a CD. That and of course vinyl packaging is so much better.

Now people can get convenient music from itunes or whatever- people who want a physical copy are going to start turning back to vinyl- I know I am :)
