A 1965 Matchless G15CS restoration. The G15 was a marriage of the sturdy Matchless frame and the powerful 750cc Norton Atlas engine. These bikes are also known as the Hybrids, and it came in a Norton varitant as well, N15CS. About 7500 hybrids were built 1964-1968 as the touring version Mk. II, the CS scrambler, the CSR Café Racer and finally the Norton P11. Most of the Hybrids were export for the US market. The CS was born for desert scrambling, but was mainly a street scrambler building on the desert sled style. At 210 kgs dry, these bikes took brave men to scramble anyway. Join the AJS/Matchless egroup to learn more about the G15CS and their family. The sound clip of the running engine is the first start after restoration, and the engine still needed fine tuning as can be heard.

  • Some of the responces are saying that they changed to a 21 from a 19 tooth trans sprocket. THe N15cs, G15cs came with a 17 tooth. I switched from the orignal 17 to a 20 and didn't like it. So I went to the 19 and it made it just right for this bike.

  • @mikesn15cs1 Yes, 17T was standard, mine came with 19T from the States and I changed to 21T as this suits my riding better. A matter of taste - I find it too shaky at higher revs, but on the other side, it pulls like a train when it is allowed some revs.

  • Nice bike. I have a N15cs 1967 on You Tube. Check it out. @ APIM0270.AVI

I love these bikes when they are tuned to the max. I'll never sell mine!

  • @mikesn15cs1 Nice bike indeed!

  • i had one of these in 1968 and used it in the sand and dunes out by the seashore and it was great to ride in that sort of terrain. needs knobbier tires to do that.

what i loved about it was its bottom end torque - it would pull like a tractor.

  • Great story. It definately pulls like a tractor. I have never been in the rough with it, but apart from the sheer weight of the thing, I am pretty sure it is a good dune slider.

  • Thanks! I switched form 19T to 21T and that really helped. The clutch is prone to slip with this gearing, but the ride is much more comfortable. I have plenty of bottom power, but it took me a long time jetting it to obtain this. Good luck with your N15.

  • Nice Bike! Nice Video!

  • Brilliant restore

  • not only a good dune slider, but a great hill climber, as well. it's a really great tractable motorcycle... wish i had another... sigh...
