Can you clarify under what circumstances this is allowed to do a remote interview? Also, let's be real here. This bogus requirement was done due to the English Spectrum scandal--a scandal involving a young man gushing his escapades with korean women and a wet t-shirt picture. This is not a retalitory issue.Given that pregnant Korean women would come to the U.S. on a tourist visa to give birth here so there son would gain citizenship and get out of the draft, I think it's fair.

@barron8006 It usually depends on the distance to the consulate and if that consulate does those types of interviews. As for the start of the new rules, they started after the Christopher Paul Neil incident where an internationally wanted child molester was teaching at a school in Korea. That was the trigger.

Thanks for the reply. I'm 397 miles away from the closest consulate. Is this okay? Also, how should I go about asking for a difference. Each consulate is different, arbitrary.

@barron8006 You would have to give the consulate a call and let them know that you'll be applying for an E2 visa, tell them where you are located, and ask if it will be possible to do an interview via webcam/phone. They will let you know.

Is this interview mandatory? I live hours by car from the consulate. I can go to Atlanta's or NYC's. Anyway to do it remotely?

P.S. No other country makes visa people from N. America do an interview. That says something of the lack of respect foreigners get in Korea.

@barron8006 Yes, the interview is a requirement. It varies from consulate to consulate, but most times, it needs to be in person. The odd consulate will allow webcam interviews.P.S. The US makes Koreans do an extensive interview just to get a tourist visa to visit the US.

Basically, if it is a Bachelors degree, you should be fine. Different countries have different terms for schools...for example in Canada, for the most part a "college" doesn't issue a BA but in the US, a college certainly very often issue BAs. The term polytechnic sounds like perhaps you are from South Africa? Just guessing!
