I have something breeding in my reef tank. The only possibility is hermit crabs, there are no other types of crabs or shrimp in this tank. The babies or zoea have been present and at different stages for at least three months now. In this video I have isolated two similar aged zoea and filmed them in a shot glass. They are approximately 1/8th of an inch long. I hope someone can identify and help me with this incredible occurrence. It seems impossible for them to have survived to this stage of developement.

  • Forgot to add that I have the same thing that was breeding in my 24 gallon Aquapod . I havent seen them since I switched everything over to my 40 breeder setup . Hopefully they will return.

  • Neat, I hope they return too!

  • a looks like mysid shrimp to me

  • They do look like mysis, this stage of zoeal developement is just before the tail curls under the body and they molt into the megalopa stage.
