Im really sorry about the cutting of the middle and end of the song. This song was great sung with the orchestra. I accedentally hit the stop bottun during recording and didn't realize it til too late. I hit record again and got some more of the song, but my batterey went out. So what I did was take the two videos and splice them together. the video doe snot do it justice but still worth watching!

  • I'm looking for the orchestra parts for this great arrangement here. Any idea where I can get it?

  • i dont know if you can find them. realtime commissioned the sioux center director to specifically arranged their song to fit with an orchestra. I dont know if you will be able to find the orchestra arrangments.

  • WAAAOW!!! respect!

  • omgee. this sounds amazing...(:

    love the complimentary orchestra..!

  • this is with the Northwest Iowa Symphony--I play second violin in it (off the camera). This was one of the best concerts I've ever done with the orchestra

  • Right.

To put it bluntly, we don't sing the notes on a piano, or on any other fixed-pitch instrument. We sing IN-BETWEEN those notes. There is no generally accepted sheet music notation system for notating this (several people including me are working on just such a thing).

  • WELL SAID

I agree with saxoman that barbershop arrangements are AWESOME, but the magic in barbershop comes with the overtones and ringing chords and sadly you just don't get that with orchestral instruments :(

  • jcrirmsa is right, but also, the reason you don't hear more instrumental transcriptions of REAL barbershop is that real barbershop is done in an Adaptive Just Intonation scale that cannot be played by fixed-pitch instruments such as keyboards, fretted strings, etc.

For instance, the F of an F Major chord is NOT the same note as the F of G7.

Non-fretted strings CAN do it, but it's tricky. Ever wonder how an expert chamber string quartet gets that awesomely pure harmony sound? Now you know.

  • Amen

  • this isn't technically barbershop. It's a men's arrangement from Jonathan Quick, you can get it at cypresschoral, com. It's a great song to be sure, but it's not barbershop.

  • oh wow.

    this is amazing

i remember crying when i was six when they sang this. it was my favorite song they sang at the time. I loved hearing them at the GOF shows (my dad sings in GOF).
