Dissect my technique: Pt 1...

Sort of a segue into making tutorials... (I am still going to be working on some tutorials very soon, with commentaries. In the meantime, I thought I would try this:) Realtime video capture of a spontaneous critter doodle (I'm making it up as I go along). Let's see if this is a good start on working my way up to the tutorial/commentary stuff. For this, I tried to keep all of my tools and settings visible for you to see what I am doing. And I will be adding annotations to help describe further things I am doing I my keyboard that you cannot see. This is pretty much the exact same procedure I use to do my dragon art digitally.

If I miss something, I will try to answer in the commentary section or post it as an annotation on the vid itself. (I realize you can only fit so many annotations before it really clutters up the screen).
Also, I am wondering how youtube resolution will work for this.

@teo1th He made a mask so he can copy it onto another layer where he can lock transparency to prevent drawing outside the creature.

On paper, I know what I'm doing. In Photoshop... I get lost in the tools and the presets and effects... I haven't got a clue what I'm doing! On top of that, I haven't got a tablet, and using a mouse to draw is no easy task...

Hello, I'm using a different version of photoshop than you, And I'm wondering what tool you're using to illustrate with? It almost looks like the burn tool, which I rarely use, In which case I was wondering what does the "range" dropdown menu at the top do? what changes when your switch it from "Shadow" to "Highlights"?
