    I would've voted for Coppola, I think he lost to Bob Fosse in '72 largely because he was unheard of at that point. If he'd have won for the first Godfather I think Roman Polanski should have won. Francois Truffaut for Day for Night didn't have a chance because this is the Oscars, aka Academy Awards for Anglophone Films.
