My Core 2 Duo laptop with 5400rpm HDD gets to desktop in 43 second from pushing start.

there is a better way to tell this is not an x41 than looking at the logo. The 2 metal bits at either end of the laptop sort of give it away, I forget the tech name for them but I know most doors have a pair aswell

So you managed to get the CF card work under ATA66 mode? Which BIOS version did you use? I can only get my 280x card work under ATA33 mode, which is even slower than the stock HDD

this is not an X41 by the way! X41's aren't lenovo branded.
