I will try to ask a keeper about his eyes the next time I am at the Zoo.
It's probably just his normal expression, but it almost looks like people look when they are first adjusting to wearing contacts.

Most of the Philadelphia Zoo cats are awake and alert in cooler or cold weather.
It's a whole different story in the summer, though. So since most people only visit zoos in the summer, they have the impression that the big cats sleep ALL the time.
Of course, in New Orleans, the weather is usually warmer most of the time, so that's probably why the big cats there spend more time napping.
