Dream Theater is like the Blind Guardian of prog metal, i.e. they're the benchmark for what qualifies as "prog metal". Death, or at least their later stuff, is a way better example of prog metal. Symphony X is more neo-classical but they have elements of progressive. A Forest of Stars dips into Avant-garde territory but they retain a certain amount of progressive sound.

Timma, I've neer heard of Prometheus, I'll check them out. And listening to this again has showed me that there's more to appreciate than I thought, but I still think it's a bit too simple.

into eternity blows, i agree with Dream Theater, Pull Me Under, i love that song... if you want Progressive Listen to Death and Athiest, and Ihsahn(Emperor)!!!

These riffs aren't intricate. I honestly think it's pretty easy. If you want intricate, listen to prog like dream theater or INto Eternity.

It may be easy to compose but can you pull it off playing these intriquite riffs live and one after the other like Ihsahn and Emperor due.
