@eliev04 I agree. Everything is a matter of taste, but technique is something quite objective, and that lady has one of the best I've heard. Her ABSOLUTELY healthy instrument is clearly heard in every note.

Gheorghiu's a great soprano but although I find her Violetta exciting, it's too strong and sharp. This is a huge sound for the role of the fragile Violetta. I used to be ok with dramatic sopranos singing Traviata (Callas) but I now find that lighter lyric sopranos do it better; they might have more agile coloratura/trill, they convincingly sound like they're dying of TB. Nothing against Gheorghiu but this is Traviata and not Tosca.

Great singing actress!!

Its the lighting. That is why she looked old.

She looks old when she is in rehearsal but young when in the performance! It kind of scared me! lol

Joan may not have been a great actress but she was an honest performer and incapable of insincerity.

mi è piaciuta molto...e pensare che a m di solito da fastidio il suo modo di attegiarsi. qui era "giusta"
naturalmnte sulla voce nienteda dire

stratas dove sei?
Their way of singing is not comparable. Georg Solti, who happened to know a bit about music, burst into tears the first time he heard Gheorghiu sing. If her technique was good enough for him, it should be good enough for both of us.
