Pro Class WIN @ Mondello Park 17/08/08

We decided last minute to head down to Mondello to compete in a round of the Irish Time Attack series on Sunday 17/08/08 seeing as our next outing for the UK series was a good few weeks off.

Having never been there before we had no idea what setup to use for the track and the Sam had obviously never driven there before either so he was going to have to learn the track from scratch!.

The first session in the morning warm up was wet and it quickly became apparent that this was one slippy track!! A few competitors went off but no major incidents...a few regulars commented that track conditions were far from ideal!.

Anyway the "Stig" got the race head on and went out for some fun putting in a 1:11.398 sec sighting lap in the practice session which was good enough to put him in 6th position.

We made a few small changes to the setup of the car based on what we had learnt from the practice earlier in the morning and Sam went out again for the qualifying this time starting to learn the track he put in a 1:02.095 sec lap which put us into 3rd.

For the final a few more small setup changes were made and it was agreed we would "pit stop" during the session!, out again and after an agreed number of laps Sam returned to the pit lane where the team set about changing all 4 wheels, straight out and straight into the lead on the next hot lap putting in a stonking 1:00.489 sec lap, over a full second in front of the next nearest competitor a regular, and untouched for the rest of the race!!

When you take into we have never been at Mondello before and Sam has never raced there before we couldn't have hoped for a better result, great to see the man on the top step!
