Part 2.
Today, the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee voted against a bill that would end the policy of issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. The Governor is thankful to Representatives Kintigh and Anderson for voting for the bill and disappointed that Representatives Chasey, Maestas, and O'Neill voted to keep New Mexico as one of only two states that still grants licenses to illegal immigrants. This is a public safety issue, and as other states continue to tigthen their licensing laws, New Mexico is becoming a haven for those who know they can get a quick government ID in our state. There has been a 20% increase in the number of driver's licenses issued to foreign nationals in the last year, and 35% of those foreign nationals seeking NM driver's licenses are from outside of New Mexico. This policy must stop, and a vote on HB 78 deserves an up-or-down vote in the House. One committee cannot overwhelm the voice of the 75% of New Mexixcans who support this measure.
Please call or email the following Representatives to respectfully voice your disappointment:
Rep. Gail Chasey: (505) 246-2221 or gail.chasey@nmlegis.gov
Rep. Antonio Maestas: (505) 242-2279 or antonio.maestas@nmlegis.gov
Rep. Bill O'Neill: 505-986-4464 or william.oneill@nmlegis.gov.
The solution to the problem of illegal aliens is quite simple. Go after the employers and have them pay for the deportation of illegal aliens in their employ. On top of that send them a bill for illegally gained profits which gave them an unfair business edge. Outlaw institutions that support illegal aliens under the false flag of being "immigrant" organizations while never having helped a legal immigrant.

Illegal aliens are not immigrants. Calling them immigrants is highly discriminating to those that want to adapt to their new country, pay the dues, abide the law and speak the language (English). Providing any rights to illegal aliens is a slap in the face towards legal immigrants and highly discriminating.
