The second railway outing for 2012 and it's off to the Great Central Railway for their annual winter steam gala. This would be the railway's biggest ever gala with ten locos in attendance including one visiting and the debut of Ivatt Class 2 no.46521. A Saturday only feature was the evening twilight show featuring lots of night action including a night time TPO with 70013 'Oliver Cromwell'.

Locos in steam were:

- BR Standard Class 7MT 4-6-2 no.70013 'Oliver Cromwell' (Recently returned to the line after a busy mainline stint in 2011)
- LSWR M7 Class 0-4-4T no.30053 (Visiting from the Swanage Railway and the first of it's class to visit the GCR)
- GCR 8K Class 2-8-0 no.63601 (She recently celebrated her 100th birthday. This was to be one of her last gala appearances before being withdrawn for overhaul later this year)
- BR(M) Ivatt Class 2MT 2-6-0 no.46521 (Debuting at the gala after being overhauled, moving under her own steam for the first time in 11 years at the end of 2011)
- SR N15 Class 4-6-0 no.30777 'Sir Lamiel'
- LMS Class 8F 2-8-0 no.8624
- BR Standard Class 2MT 2-6-0 no.78019
- LMS Class 3F 'Jinty' 0-6-0 no.47406
- GNR Class N2 0-6-2T no.1744
- GWR 4900 Class 4-6-0 no.4953 'Pitchford Hall'

Shots included are:

Quorn & Woodhouse:

- 4953 runs wrong road light engine to Loughborough in preparation for the 10:33 TPO.
- 30777 arrives with the 09:50 from Loughborough whilst 70013 arrives on the 09:45 from Leicester North.

- 8624 arrives light engine for a demonstration on the GCR's recently installed turntable whilst 30053 arrives on the 10:13 from Rothley. 8624 is then seen being turned.
- 4953 storms through on the 10:33 TPO, usually four coaches it has now been upped to five.

Kinchley Lane:

- 30777 coasts along with the 10:35 from Leicester North then shortly afterward 46521 & 78019 put on a blistering performance on the 10:40 from Loughborough, this being 46521's first revenue earning service since overhaul.
- 1744 runs by with the 10:55 from Loughborough then 63601 is seen returning the TPO stock from Leicester North.
- 8624 on the 11:15 mineral train from Loughborough then 4953 hurries past on the 11:28 from Rothley.
- 30053 passes with the 11:30 from Loughborough.
- I did have a shot of the 2MTs returning to Loughborough but due to them catching me out and people talking over the clip I didn't include it.
- 47406 runs by on the 11:45 freight from Loughborough.
- 1744 heads the 11:48 mineral train back to Loughborough from Rothley.
- 70013 makes a rather sedate pass with the 12:18 TPO.
- 8624 returns the freight to Loughborough.
- 30053 heads the 12:15 from Leicester North passing 78019 & 30777 on the 12:20 from Loughborough, the two whistling away as they pass us.

  • @Hanglands thank you very much =) Indeed the weather was fantastic, albeit being a bit nippy. A brilliant gala by the GCR and very much packed out where ever I went.

  • Very nice work indeed. You got to some good vantage points. We were lucky with the weather (if not the temperature) eh? Cracking, well attended, gala. Looking forward to whatever else the GCR lay on through 2012.

  • @EMuksteam indeed they did Em =) Aside from it being freezing cold it was a lovely day. Thanks for watching & commenting.
