@Hope2009pc You are correct, (I'm 60 and remember most of this) Steven Stills auditioned, was the best musical artist by far but it was a TV show/band; image and appearance were everything, producers had a problem with his smile. He later fixed his teeth; at the time, they needed teenybop images for the Monkees. He lost out, maybe for the best, the rest of the group slid off the charts, but he went on to to become a legend, played with the best, writing songs that will always be remembered!

@inkey2 That is a popular myth. The true story was that Stephen Stills wanted to audition, thinking he'd be performing his music. When he found out that the Monkees would be acting the part of musicians, he passed on the idea and got his friend & fellow folkie, Peter Torkelson (aka Peter Tork) to audition, instead.
